The unlikely placement within the homestead of a fine embroidered handkerchief bearing Elizabeth’s initials is a defiant act that reminds us of the importance of equality. A native moth sits on the fabric. Numerous Indigenous species have declined as a result of our industrialised, capitalistic society. These intersections of settler/convict and colonial/indigenous, present at the early settlement of Lanyon, continue to resonate in Australia today.
